Mrs. Angela Menino,
First Lady, City of Boston
This year Italia Unita would like to bestow this honor on Boston’s First Lady, Mrs. Angela Menino. Mrs. Menino is well known throughout the City of Boston and the United States not only as the wife of our Honorable Mayor Thomas M. Menino but also for her contributions to the community and business world.
Angela Menino is a great role model for Italian American men, women, and youth as well as the entire community, exemplifying the classic attributes and benefits of dedication, hard work, and commitment. She is a Founding Member of the BostonWomen's Commission, the Boston Community Schools (now called Boston Community Centers), and the MCSW. Angela has been active with a number of boards in Boston. She was recently appointed to the Advisory Board for the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus and serves on the Board of Dress for Success in Roslindale. She serves as First Lady on committees supporting a number of programs that benefit women and families, including, the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence, the Jane Doe Foundation, the Patriots' Trail Girl Scouts, the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, and the Boston Women's Memorial. As First Lady of the City of Boston, she frequently hosts dignitaries and neighborhood groups and keeps an active public schedule, often appearing and speaking on behalf of the Mayor.
She is the personification of the theory that an educated woman can have it all. Her dedication to the community, her work at John Hancock Financial, and her family make Mrs. Menino an ideal candidate for the 2005 Italian American Achievement Award.
Please join Italia Unita during the Opening Ceremony of the Eleventh Annual Italian Festival on Friday July 16th in Central Square, East Boston when Mrs. Angela Menino is presented with the prestigious Italian American Achievement award.
