About Ciro Giorgio
Ciro Giorgio was born in Naples, Italy, on November 5, 1951, the son of Gennaro (Rino) Giorgio, an actor and singer. Ciro is an actor, singer, organizer, keyboard player, magician, stilt-walker, dancer, director, and writer of poems, songs, and scripts. Ciro started his acting career in 1962 in his fathers company in the play Il Grido della Giustizia by S. Panetta. He also performed in Turmiento e Marenare (1964); in Miseria e Nobiltà by Eduardo Scarpetta (1965), with Nino Taranto, Carlo Taranto, Dolores Palumbo, and Luisa Conte; and starred in Il Mammasantissima (1979). He has performed in plays, films, and television with such prestigious actors and singers as Fernandel, Totò, Nino Manfredi, Gigi Proietti, Carlo Giuffre, Rossano Brazzi, Tecla Scarano, Gino Cervi, Tato Russo, Ugo Tognazzi, Orso Maria Guerrini, Edmonda Aldini, Ida Di Benedetto, Mario Merola, Nino DAngelo, and Antonio Murro.
Ciro studied piano at the San Pietro a Maiella Conservatory in Naples. He studied magic and was a member of Magic Clubs of Bologna and Torino. He is a now a member of the Society of American Magicians. He is the president of Centro Teatro Studi (C.T.S.), a theatre cooperative that he and other actors founded in 1980, and where he organizes, writes, directs, and produces shows. This troupe has appeared all over Italy, and in Europe and North America. He collaborated with Beatrice Premoli of Romes folklore museum in the exhibition, The Masks of Pulcinella, at the Museum at the Caserta Royal Palace. The director Roberto De Simone cast Ciro in the role of Pulcinella in Il Canto de li Cunti (1992). De Simone said, In his interpretation the actor disappears and out springs the real Neapolitan character. Critics unanimously acclaim him the ultimate Pulcinella.
In 1993 he produced the musical comedy Who has seen Pulcinella? in Hungary. Since then, he has developed and taught theatrical laboratories in Campania sponsored by local governments. He has presented musical performances in the United States and Canada, including Festivals of Neapolitan Songs in Chicago and in casinos in Atlantic City. In 1997 he conceived of a new project entitled Pulcinella a spasso nel tempo (Pulcinella through time, where the Pulcinella character meets, talks, and laughs with various historical characters). Venues include: Pietrarsa National Railroad Museum, sponsored by the Naples Education Office; and Baia Castle Museum, the Baia Roman Baths, and Anfiteatro Flavio di Pozzuoli, with collaboration of the Archaeological Superintendent of Naples and Caserta. These shows for students and tourists have also been taken on the road to Helsinki (Finland) and Tallinn (Estonia) (2000).
Recent film roles include that of the prince in Il Negromante (The Alchemist, 2001), and of a police vice-commissioner in the murder mystery Senza Legge, Ne Regole,(2003). Recent United States performances include as a singer and comedian in Boston, (7th Annual Italia Unita Festival), and in Phoenix, AZ, (singing at benefits for the Intl Foundation for Anticancer Drug Discovery at the Hyatt Regency, for Besthawas Foundation at Avantis Restaurant, and for the Intl School of Arizona; and at the Phoenix Sister Cities Int'l Culinary Festival; as well as presentations at local elementary and secondary schools and colleges and private events). Recent shows in Italy include the play Guappo di Cartone; the musical Viaggio nel Café Chantant, performed along the Amalfi Coast; the Christmas pageant La Cantata dei Pastori; Giocaimpara (Commedia dellArte) at the San Carlo Theatre in Naples; an Italian television series on Neapolitan theatre; and a role in the television series La Squadra. In 2003, Ciro sang in Las Vegas, NV, and Peoria, AZ, for the San Gennaro Feast.
